Orientation

Orientation will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.  Every family is encouraged to attend.  We will be discussing the new policies and procedures for the new school year.  Student schedules will also be distributed at this time.  It is very important that all students taking college courses come to orientation to receive their schedules because both HAIS and HCC will begin classes on the same day this year.  We will begin at the HCC San Jacinto Auditorium and then tour our new campus.  Lunch will be provided to all that attend.

Dress Code Policy

Due to the immersion in college courses as well as frequent visits to the HCC Campus, students will not be required to wear uniforms.  Instead all students are required to dress for college success.  Please find specific information in the attached bulletin.

School Hours

In order to more closely align our schedule to the HAIS Schedule, HAIS has changed its hours for this school year: Monday through Thursdays, students will report to school at 8:15 a.m. and will be dismissed at 4 p.m.  Tutorials will be held from 4 to 5 p.m.  Friday students will begin class at 9 a.m. and will be dismissed at 4 p.m.

Shuttle to HCC Campus

HISD has provided HAIS with a shuttle to transport students to HCC.  All HAIS college students will be riding the HAIS shuttle to HCC each day.  At orientation you will receive a permission slip that must be signed BEFORE students can take advantage of this opportunity. Students should be aware that all of the rules that are contained in the Code of Student Conduct are applicable to their actions while riding HISD provided transportation.

Parking

Student parking will be provided on a first come first served basis.  Parking is limited.  Parking decals must be purchased to park on HAIS property.  Student decals can be purchased from the main office for $50.  Any car parked on HAIS property without a proper decal will be subject to tow at owner’s expense.  Any student who purchases a parking decal must show proof of insurance, valid driver’s license and inspection sticker.

College Textbooks

As our enrollment increases, our college textbook bill also increases.  This year each student attending HCC college course must pay a $25 administrative fee each semester they take college courses. 

Tutorials

All tutorials will be scheduled on students’ official schedules this year.  As our entrance agreement states, all students identified as needing to tutorials will be scheduled and must attend or be counted absent.
